I have the honour to renew my application to be granted the privilege of exchange compensation allowance.

I ground my application on the fact that since the date of my previous application I have been promoted to the office of Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court.

I have the honour to refer His Excellency the Governor to the following extract which appeared in the "Daily Press" of the 4th March 1895.

"The Secretary of State has directed that exchange compensation be paid to the Chief Justice of Singapore, Mr. Cox and Mr. J. O. Anthonisz 2nd Magistrate, Police Court, Singapore. The Secretary of State declines to enter into the question of domicile of officials of rank.

I understand the facts of the above extract to be correct.

I respectfully submit that the office of Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court is an office of rank. Under the Promissory Oaths Ordinance No.4 of 1869 he is required to take judicial oaths which oath is the same as that required to be taken by every judicial functionary in the Colony.
